For more than three decades, Longwood Performing Arts, a dance studio in Southern Chester County, PA, has taught thousands of young children to love the art of dance. LPA provides students with an exciting performance experience through its May student performance. The annual staple of the dance school, the recital, is a rite of passage for thousands of youngsters. This gives our students chance to shine in front of family and friends, that they anticipate with nervous excitement. The recital offers our students a professionally directed performance that allows them to present to their families and friends the results of a year's hard work, dedication, and progress.
A big part of the dance training process includes learning through performance. The experience helps build self-esteem, self-assurance, and contributes to a sense of confidence. Although performance opportunities can help prepare some students for a possible career in dance, they also contribute to a child's success in non-dance activities. Stage experience can result in better in school presentations, improved social skills, and strong interview skills for future college or job opportunities. The rehearsal process is a tremendous learning experience as well. It helps the children develop retention skills, and by working with their classmates on a group performance, they learn the positive aspects of working as a team to create the best end result.
Dedication to recital commitments is the responsibility of both students and their parents. We've created a handbook as an effort to clarify what we expect from you in terms of commitments and responsibilities to the annual recital, the school, and other students and parents.

As the season progresses, additional recital information or updates will be posted on the school bulletin board in the lobby or on the web site on the recital page. A packet will be handed out during regular scheduled classes including a ticket order form. Please make it your responsibility to keep abreast of this important information. Our goal is to make the recital an organized, exciting experience for everyone involved. It's a team effort: students, their parents, the teachers and the director are key players in the show's success.
Recital Photos
Class photos will be taken during dress rehearsals by Artisan Photography. All students are required to be present for their class picture. There are no exceptions. After the group photo shoot, students may choose to have solo portraits made in any or all of their costumes. There is no obligation to purchase individual or group photos.
Ticket Policies
Tickets go on sale May 1 and cost $15.00 each. All studio accounts (Tuition, costumes, ect.) must be paid in full before any family member may purchase recital tickets. There is no limit to the number of tickets you may purchase. Order forms can be mailed in or placed in the tuition drop box located in the lobby. Tickets are processed in the order that they are received. Please do not ask to pick up your tickets at the studio. ALL TICKETS will be mailed.
In an effort to create an organized and professional atmosphere, all tickets are reserved seating. Each member of the family must have a reserved seat. If younger siblings would be uncomfortable remaining seated for two hours, please do not bring them to the recital. Children who are running around the auditorium are distracting to audience members. A section will be reserved for students who wish to watch the performance.
If your child is in more than one performance you will receive a voucher form to receive two (2) complimentary tickets to the performance of your choice.
Rehearsal Information
A schedule and information of rehearsals will be posted by the end of March. Please check back for full details of dress rehearsal and performances.
The faculty at Longwood Performing Arts is looking forward to this year's Student Performance. It is a great showcase of our students and teachers. We thank you for your commitment and dedication to your dance education.
