Classes and Dress Code

All Ballet classes follow the Vagonova syllabus

Pre-Level Division

The Pre-Level Division has been designed to introduce students to the basics of ballet, emphasizing body positions and coordination.  Required attire for the Pre-Level Division is a Black or Yellow dance dress with attached skirt.  See below for tights and shoes.

PreBallet- age 3-4 years.

PreBallet- Students will need pink tights, pink ballet slippers and hair pulled up into a bun.

Division 1 and 2

Division 1 and 2 are structured classes for the beginner student (or Pre-Level graduate). Required attire for the Division 1 and 2 Levels is a Pink or Periwinkle dance dress with attached skirt. See below for tights and shoes.

Ballet/Jazz 1- ages 5-6 years

Ballet/Jazz- Students will need pink tights, pink ballet slippers and hair pulled up into a bun.

Ballet/Jazz 2- ages 6-8 years

Ballet/Jazz- Students will need pink tights, pink ballet slippers and hair pulled up into a bun.

Tap 1- ages 5-6 years            

Tap- Students will need light suntan tights, black ankle strap tap shoes and hair pulled up.

Tap 2- ages 6-8 years

Tap- Students will need light suntan tights, black ankle strap tap shoes and hair pulled up.

Division 3

Division 3 offers structured classes for the experienced student. Required attire for Division 3 is a Burgundy or Black dance dress with attached skirt.  Students for Level 3 are ages 7-9 years. See below for tights and shoes.

Ballet/Jazz 3-  Students will need pink tights, pink ballet slippers and hair pulled up into a bun.

Tap 3- Students will need light suntan tights, black ankle strap tap shoes and hair neatly                                          pulled up.

Division 4

Division 4 offers structured classes for the experienced student. Required attire for Division 4 is a Black or Burgundy dance dress with attached skirt.  Students in Level 4 are ages 8-10 years. See below for tights and shoes.

     Ballet 4- Students will need pink tights, pink ballet slippers and hair in a bun.

     Jazz/Hip-Hop 4- Students will need any color tights, black jazz shoes and hair pulled up.

     Tap 4-  Students will need light suntan tights, black ankle strap tap shoes and hair pulled up.

Division 5

Division 5 Levels are structured classes for the experienced student.  Required attire for the division 5 levels is a solid color purple leotard (Motionwear color #573) or a solid black leotard.  Students may wear black accessories (black ballet skirt, black fitted jazz shorts, black jazz pants).  Students in level 5 are ages 9-11 years.  See below for tights and shoes.

Ballet 5- Students will need pink tights, pink ballet slippers and hair pulled in a bun.

Jazz/Hip-Hop 5- Students will need any color tights, black jazz shoes and hair pulled up.

Tap 5- Students will need any color tights, black ankle strap tap shoes, and hair pulled up.

Division A-

Division A Levels are designed for the more serious experienced dance student. Students at this level are required to take a ballet class when they are taking a jazz or tap class.  Required attire for the Division A Levels is any solid color leotard and any color tight with hair pulled up. See below for required shoes.

Ballet/Pointe- Pre-Pointe and/or Pointe work is included in this class.  It is required that students attend two ballet classes per week in A ballet to be able to do pointe work.  Students will need pink ballet slippers and hair pulled up into a bun.

Jazz- Students will need black jazz shoes.

Tap- Students will need flat black tap shoes.

Hip-Hop- Students will need black jazz sneakers.

Lyrical- Students will need tan jazz shoes.

Modern- Students will need any color footless tights.

Division B and C

Students at this level have made a commitment to dance.  Together with the faculty, students customize their schedule to best suit their goals and abilities. These levels are designed for the advanced student committed to daily training and possibly aspiring to a career in dance.  It is required that students attend at least two ballet classes per week to be in these levels.  Required attire for the Division B and C is any solid color leotard and any color tights with hair pulled up.  See below for required shoes.

Ballet- Students will need any color tights, pink ballet slippers and hair in a bun.

Pointe- It is required that any students enrolled in any pointe class attend two ballet classes and                                two pointe classes per week.

Jazz- Students will need black jazz shoes.

Hip-Hop- Students will need black jazz sneakers.

Lyrical- Students will need tan jazz shoes.

Tap- Students will need black flat tap shoes.

Modern- Students will need any color footless tights.

Teen Division

The Teen Division is designed for students who are dancing for recreation and enjoyment.  The required attire for the teen division is any solid color leotard and any color tights with hair pulled up.  Students in the teen division are 12 years and up.  See below for required shoes.

Ballet- Students will need pink ballet slippers, pointe shoes if requested, and hair in a bun.

Tap- Students will need flat black tap shoes.

Jazz- Students will need black jazz shoes.

Hip-Hop- Students will need black jazz sneakers.

Lyrical- Students will need tan jazz shoes. Enrollment in ballet is required for this class.

Adult Division

   The Adult Division is designed for adult students who are dancing for recreation and enjoyment. 

Ballet- Students will need pink ballet slippers.

Jazz/Hip-Hop- Students will need jazz shoes or jazz sneakers.

Boys

  Boys are invited and encouraged to join classes at Longwood Performing Arts. Required attire for classes is a black or white T-shirt, black jazz pants or sweat pants and proper shoes.

Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Tap, Modern, Lyrical and Hip-Hop Classes.
